COMMUNITY SPECIAL CONSTABLE FOR MERSEA (UPDATED 10 NOV 22)

West Mersea Town Council would like to welcome Community Special Constable Bryant to the Island.
After a lengthy training process, Constable Bryant officially took up his position as our Community Police Officer on 1st November 2022. Some of you may have already seen or met him out on foot patrol, in the lead up to his official start date. Formally welcomed at the recent Town Civic Ceremony on 23rd October, he has since been out on the beat, speaking to members of the public, local businesses, and community groups.
Constable Bryant is already in discussion with a number of parties in regard to community based initiatives, aimed at making our Island a better and safer place. Understandably he hasn't been able to meet and speak to everyone, but if you would like SC Bryant to drop by to discuss a concern or simply to say hello, please provide your details to the Council Office and we will be more than happy to pass them on.

Community Special Constables are volunteer police officers, holding the same office and the same powers as regular officers; they wear the same uniform and carry the same equipment and are deployed to the same incidents. Being volunteers, CSCs are not paid but can claim mileage and duty allowances.

NATIONAL CYBER SECURITY CENTRE

The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), in partnership with City of London Police and Action Fraud, have launched their Christmas Cyber Aware Campaign on 14th November.
The campaign aims to provide three key behaviours for the public:
- Protect your accounts: Use three random word passwords and set up 2-step verification for your email.
- Check before you buy: Research online retailers to check they're legitimate. Read feedback from people or organisations that you trust, such as consumer websites.
- Report suspicious activity: Forward texts to 8826; Forward suspicious emails to report@phishing.gov.uk; Report websites via the NCSC website, click here for link.
Individuals who think they're been a victim of fraud should contact their bank immediately and report it to Action Fraud online at actionfraud.police.uk or by calling 0300 123 2040.
